Pl. I. View of the principal room from the Daniel Peter Winne (1720-1800) house (built in 1751 in Bethlehem, New York) during installation at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in the fall of 2005. The original jambless fireplace and hearth are reconstructions. The New York cast-iron fireback is marked "A.T./NewYork/1767." It or another in the museums' collection dated 1748 from the Oxford Furnace in Warren County, New Jersey, and identical to one found in the Peiter Winne house (see Pi. IX), will be used in the final installation. Photograph by Bruce Schwarz, by courtesy of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City.
